Columbus Residents Battle High Insurance Rates

Having a 17 year old added to my policy was so painful, and shocking, that it motivated me to do something I would not have thought to do otherwise. I started hunting around for ways to cut my car insurance Columbus bill. The first thing I tried was raising my deductibles. Up until then, I had been pretty comfortable at a $500 collision deductible, but I knew that raising it should lower my rate, so I asked my agent how much the premium would go down if I went to a $1,000 deductible on my collision. When she told me, I was mildly surprised. The cost went down, but it just didn't seem like enough to warrant the added risk I would be assuming myself. I though at least three or four hundred per year would be appropriate, but the savings weren't anywhere near that much.

Next, I considered lowering my coverage limits for comprehensive and liability from 100/250/500, down to 50/100/300 (ask your agent if you don't know what those numbers mean). Again, however, I was thinking I would realize a bigger savings than the price she quoted me, so I just didn't feel it was worth the increased risk.
